This workshop will teach everything you need to know about herbs – you’ll see the entire process of taking these aromatic plants from seed to spoon to stomach! We’ll begin by learning how to design, set-up and maintain a herb garden. Basil, rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano – we’ll talk about all of them and many other herby things. Then we’ll have a hands-on cooking demo. We will learn how to use freshly-harvested herbs from our gardens to make pesto and its variations, herb flavored vinaigrette and a few herb-infused oils. We’ll also discuss some medicinal and mosquito-repellent uses of the herbs as well.
Note: bring a 1/2 cup container to take some pesto home! Recipes will be provided.
Kapil Mandawewala studied at the University of Texas, Austin, and worked with Deloitte Consulting in San Francisco for five years before returning to India in 2008. Here, he started organic farming on his twenty-acre family farm in Gujarat. He then started Sajeev Fresh [now Edible Routes] in 2010, with the mission of spreading healthy, nutritious & fresh food, and building strong communities that are self-reliant.
