An Evening of Hindustani Classical Music – Zorba Baithak Series

Vocal with Harmonium and Tabla Recital Organised by Swaranjali Delhi and Zorba the Buddha      

The ‘Zorba Baithak’ is a mehfil for soulful exchange between artiste and audience. In this warm & intimate gathering, you are able to share eye contact, smiles and appreciation with the performers. It is a special connection which cannot be experienced in the mightiest of auditoriums.

You are all invited to an evening of Hindustani Classical Music. We are delighted to present a Hindustani Vocal Recital by Anjana Nath one of chosen disciples of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib. She will be accompanied by Sh Susamoy Mishra on Tabla and Zakir Dholpuri on Harmonium.

The musical heritage initiated by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib has meandered through the ages and is still survived by a quite a few vocalists; Anjana Nath is unambiguously identified as one of them.

Anjana started singing from her early childhood and blossomed under the shade of her pious mother, Smt. Kusumita Nath and inspired by her father Shri Harilal Nath who was a School Teacher.

She persuaded her Taalim under Vidushi Meera Banerjee and Late Pandit Lalit Mohan Sanyal. Both of them were the direct disciples of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib. In 1989, Anjana was selected as a scholar of “Sangeet Research Academy”; Kolkata. Guru Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty of patiyala gharana has taken the guide role of her music for 10 years. Anjana’s relentless effort made her a complete Indian Classical Vocalist of ‘Patiala Gharana’.

She had topped in Khayal and Thumri in many prestigious Competitions. The National talent search Scholarship was given by the Govt. of India to her in 1989. She is an empanelled artiste of I.C.C.R from 2004. She received fellowship from the Government of India for her research on the subject Indian Classical Music effects on human psychology & physiology. She received the National Award for Thumri  Smt. Girija Devi Puraskar in 2011 and also received the Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi National Award in 2014 for khayal and Thumri.

Nationally she had performed in many prestigious festivals, such as:

  • Raja Rani Festival, Bhubaneswar.
  • Bihar Sangeet Natak Academy Thumri Festival, Patna.
  • Swarmanch Music Festival Madgao, Goa.
  • Sitar Ratna Samiti Music Festival, Dharwad, Karnataka.
  • Music Concerts in Delhi: – India International Centre, India Habitats Centre and many more.

She had performed in the International Music festivals in England, Spain, Germany, Canada and Switzerland.
